Hyperion Ambilight

ambient lighting at the bottom of the TV

Many tutorials outthere on ambient lighting. Shopping list available. Not too difficult they say. And i want it of course.

The right hardware is very important. Every time i first went for the cheapest i could find, only later i paid attention to specifications that did not seem important or relevant at first.

Videograbber. First one ordered did not have the right chipset. You do all the steps, but still it fails to work. Only later I found a reference to Fushicai. Second one was the right one. HDMI splitter. Needs to support HDCP. I wanted the signal from my KPN mediabox to go to the tv and the raspberry. A splitter without HDCP v 2 apperently failed to send the signal to the raspberry. That means no signal, no light.

With these 2 components renewed i had some light sort of matching the image on TV.

Only later I found out that a some hardware was not really needed. A usb hdmi grabber also works and could replace a usb component grabber in combination with a HDMI to AV converter. Also extra power supply is recommended, but my setup with only 32 leds does not need this. Saved myself 2 extra plugs in the outlet. Remember, it all has to fit somewhere behind the TV.

Hyperion configuration gives a lot of options. But in the end i managed to find the right conf.
